At Karla, you can enter the largest collection of Chaitya caves and journey back to the 2nd century B.C. Nearby are the Bhaja caves and Bedsa caves (Bedse caves), rich in Viharas, beautiful carvings and story-telling inscriptions. 6 kms. away from Karla are the famous 18th century forts - Lohagad fort and visapur fort. 3kms. away is Valvan Dam. Close to Karla are the two popular hill stations Lonavala and Khandala.
